Arc Flash PPE Selection Guidance
Electricity is arguably the most valuable resource we have in our modern society. Without electricity, most of the things we do and rely on on a daily basis wouldn’t be there.
The Codes in NFPA 70E are, “Minimum Standards.” What does that really mean? These codes are used to provide the employer with a minimum standard requirement for personal protection equipment.
Okay, so what does that mean? If the Arc Flash Label says, “the technician must wear level 1 PPE to work on this equipment while energized’ it means the technician is only protected from getting a Third-Degree Incurable Burn! Wow!

Well, of course you wouldn’t want to be exposed too, or expose one of your employees to a second-degree burn, would you? Therefore, the selection of the proper PPE is essential. Even more so, why the instructions for caring for and laundering one’s PPE is so important.
