Although it is small, because the power is only 120 volts and only a couple of amps, that arc flash can become quite severe and even deadly when it occurs in a 480-volt electrical system that is carrying 20,000 plus amps, like most commercial facilities do. This is exactly why the NFPA, National Fire Protection Agency, has taken strong measures to mitigate this specific kind of electrical hazard.
